Some time ago I was at a shop/deli called Regina in Rotterdam and discovered Rachels’ work there and loved the colors and the little cushions she makes under the ceramics. I searched for her on Instagram and fell in love with the egg shaped boxes she already made and found them fitting perfect with the concept of Lennebelle as jewelry boxes so I asked her if she wanted to make few in different colors!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tell us a bit about yourself and you work. 

I was born and raised in Amsterdam and educated in fine arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. Towards the end of art school I started working with ceramics. Both in my abstract and functional work I search for characteristics in objects, materials and shapes that feel comfortable or spark a familiar feeling or memory but are alienating at the same time. 

 

 

 

When/how did you find out about your talent?

 

My mother is an artist and encouraged us to make and see things all the time growing up. I think that made it a comfortable choice for me to go into the arts. For a long time I really didn’t want to but I moved to France for a while and decided to keep myself busy there by going to art school. I moved back to Amsterdam after a year and ended up in art school there too. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What was your favourite job/assignment so far?

 

I love the balance between not working in assignments and doing small scale assignments for people that understand what I do and approach me because of it. Mostly assignments that ask my objects to enhance an experience in a way. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What’s the best advice you have gotten and what’s the best advice you can give considering work?

 

Keep working, don’t expect things to be good (-looking) but look for a learning experience and see every step as a learning experience.
